You have started your WAHM business and you are excited!
Opportunities will be opening for you that you never had before.
Running your own business will be very rewarding yet can also be a daunting task. With a plan and some actions, that daunting task becomes second nature.
I want to talk today about the most daunting task I feel I had to conquer and that is starting and running my email list. But that will come later in the post. For now, I need you to be sure you know two things before we more on.
In the beginning, there are two things you definitely need to do.
- Know your product.
- Know your customer or your target market.
Having working knowledge of both these business factors will make running your business and your email list much more simple.
Your Product
When you know your product inside and out it makes selling it that much easier. If someone asks a question, the answers just seem to roll off your tongue. You enjoy talking about it and it shows.
Use your product. Take note about what you enjoy about it. The more strongly you feel about it, the more likely this will show when you talk about it at parties, on your blog and in your emails.
What does your product offer?
Does your product solve the problem?
Your Customer
Your customer is called your target audience or your target market. They are who is buying and want your product.
Once you know who you are selling to it’s a lot easier to talk to them. It is a lot easier to solve their problems. I do not mean these need to be large problems like debt relief, their problems can be dry skin or better coffee.
Your product, in some way, makes someone else’s life easier or more fun. For instance, you may believe selling jewelry does not solve a problem, but it does. It makes a woman feel prettier thus helping her feel more confident to deliver a speech.
Whatever you are selling, whether a product or service, it will solve something for somebody else.
Take time to think about how your product solves a problem.
Connecting the Two
Having intimate knowledge of your product enables you to solve the problems your customer has.
Know the special characteristics people look for when buying a product like yours.
Is it organic? Smaller, larger, or quicker that the competition? Is if cheaper? Is it more accessible? Is it more user-friendly?
You know your product best, the characteristics are what you need to sell to the customer. Those characteristics that solve their problems.
Sometimes it is not the product alone that sells, it is you. It is your personal service that your customer likes when they buy your products.
This is especially evident when you meet face to face. But what if you cannot meet face to face? How do you create that personal feel for them?
Through email.

Email Marketing for Your WAHM Business
Email marketing feels like such a intimidating task. You just started your business and you feel overwhelmed with how to run it and what to do next.
I want to reassure you, it is not hard, if you have a plan. And I am going to help you with one.
How to Email Market
The concept behind email marketing is that you have the undivided attention of your most loyal customers right in their inbox.
They signed up to hear more from you about your company. And that is exactly what you are going to give them.
You are going to come to them, in their inbox, with your product and make them feel special.
How do you do this?
Think of yourself as their personal consultant. You are never a saleswoman but someone offering an opportunity to be better or feel better; opportunity to enjoy the products you sell as much as you do.
- I would start with talking highly about the special details of your product. Send out an email that emphasizes the importance of the special features like why you chose to sell organic coffee, recycled stationary or fact that you sell 100 different perfume scents.
- Definitely give your email list subscribers discounts and special incentives to love your product even more.
- Send out news from the company you represent. If a new spring line is coming out, announce it.
- Give tips and tricks to using your product. Describe how easy it is to order or use your product. Or the amazing money back guarantee you offer.
- Get input from your customers. Tell them at any time they can simply reply to the email and directly contact you.
Keeping in regular contact with your email list through periodical emails creates a relationship between you and loyal customers. Loyal customers have a tendency to buy more and more often and to tell others about your company.
Starting Your Email List is Easy
I did not want to start a list when I began blogging and running my business. And then when I did I started with an email servicer that had a learning curve as large as calculus. To this day I regret the time I wasted trying to learn their system.
Now, I not only dreaded starting this scary task, I didn’t understand the interface, the dashboard, their jargon, nothing. But it was free so I stuck with it, for 2 years. My email list grew so slow, I almost gave up and I thought online marketers were lying to newbies about how great your list is.
I was stuck and hated it.
But deep down I knew I needed an email list of special readers and customers of mine that wanted to hear more from me. So I told myself I would start an account with a premier email servicer come January 2013. And I did.
I signed up with Aweber and have never looked back. They are so easy to learn. Don’t take my word for it, watch the video below to just see how easy Aweber is.
